Learning the Swing

PANAMA CITY BEACH- “It’s a great a place to learn the game of golf,” said camp participant Sam Gramling.

That’s how a group of 12 to 14- year-old future golf stars feel about the Hombre Golf Club summer camp.

The camp started June 2nd and runs until August 7th, featuring about 70 kids from age five, up to this older group.

“This is one of the more experienced age groups, so we are working on more detailed things in their golf swing, but for the most part with any of the juniors, from age group five, to as late as age 14, we’re just trying to instill them with a balanced golf swing. We work really hard on the short game, because that really is the fundamentals of the golf swing,” said golf instructor Adam Brack.

These campers are eager to learn all the fundamentals of the game instructor Adam Brack has to offer.

“You learn lots of things. We do pitching, putting and form and they just basically tell you how to swing right and how your stance is and stuff,” said camp participant Nick Morrow.

“The fundamentals of golf, you know all the swing mechanics. The choice of club, and just golf etiquette,” said Gramling.

Some of the fundamentals are harder to pick up on than other for the students. They all have certain areas that seem the hardest to them.

“It’s pretty hard to learn how to putt very well. It’s also hard to learn your short game,” said Gramling.

“Putting probably, I’m not very good at putting. It has improved since I’ve gone to this camp,” said Morrow.

The students are able to iron out their faults with the help of Brack.

“He’s helped me a lot in the past. He’s helped me get a really long way with my putting and short game and he’s helped me stop cutting the ball or pulling it on my drives,” Gramling stated.

“He really just helps you one-on-one,” said Morrow.

“We keep our student teacher ratio about 5-to-1. So, they get quite a bit of one-on-on attention,” said Brack.

Brack loves to see how excited students get once they learn something new about their golf game.

“I tell you, when every junior, they start Monday morning at 9:00 and they finish up Thursday at noon or 3 o’clock, whichever class they are in, there is a huge difference in four days and it is a great feeling to know that they have some fundamentals in golf,” said Brack.
