Man’s ‘New’ Best Friend

PANAMA CITY BEACH- Paul Livingston and his wife Julia have a lot of friends, and no I’m not talking about high school pals, I’m talking about four legged, long necked and sloping shouldered Tennessee Walking Horse friends.

The Livingston’s are stable owners in Church Hill, Tennessee, so their job is to become close with the animals.

“I was raised up with these things and they kind of get in your blood. I’ve fooled with several different breeds throughout the years. From my thinking, the horse is well mannered and more of a docile breed than any other breeds out there,” said stable owner Paul Livingston.

“Horses give out a lot of love. They go back to Biblical times, they’ve always been there, and they are very special. They all have different personalities, just like people,” said Julia Livingston.

Interesting personalities these horses do have, and the Livingston’s pick up on these individual traits all the time.

“Every one of them has a different personality. Herbie, he’s mighty special, he likes to dunk his hay in his water bucket. We’ve got Generators Judge, and you would think he can talk,” said Julia.

“These horses are real personal. Some of them are like people. Some of the horses have a lot more personality than others. Some of them are big hounds, I guess you might say, in that they love attention,” said Paul.

Tennessee Horse trainers love to give attention back to their long necked pal, but can you say horses replace dogs as mans’ best friend?

“They are mischievous type horses, any breed is. They’re just like dogs or whatever. They kind of want to know what’s going and like a lot of attention,” said Paul.

So maybe the Tennessee Walking Horse won’t replace the dog as man’s best friend, but you’ve got to love how you describe the performance horse’s style.

You could pretty much so equate them with a show girl. Like going to Vegas. You see the best of the best and they just shine a little brighter,” said Julia.
