Marlins Still Deciding On A QB
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Arnold Marlins look to improve on a middle of the road season last year, finishing 5-5.
According to head coach James Hale, there’s a lot that needs to be done before the season open. First task at hand, finding a quarterback.
Coach Hale’s son, Jared Hale, started all 4 years for the Marlins. Hale owns every Arnold quarterback passing record including throwing a county-leading 18 touchdowns last season.
Hale said the job is coming down to three guys: Ridge Reed (Jr.), Johnny Gray (Soph.), and Quinn Sanders (Sr.).
“I won’t know who will start probably Thursday before the game,” Hale said. “We want to see who’s consistent, who’s a leader, who can handle the pressure, and bounce back when something happens. All of those factors play in on who’s going to be the starting quarterback.”
Hale said who ever has hot hand is the guy he’ll go with. Two of the three quarterback candidates are good defensive players, which will also factor in on who we start.
“We do have three good quarterbacks,” offensive lineman Hunter Smith said. “They’re good at different strengths. Our line will be able to block for anybody and we’re looking really big this year.”
Arnold opens the season on Aug. 25 at Bay High School.
