Mosley Ladies Sign With North Florida CC

LYNN HAVEN - A pair of ladies at Mosley High School each signed letters of intent Tuesday afternoon to play softball and basketball, respectively, for North Florida Community College next season.

Jessica Sowder signed for basketball, while Melissa Walker signed the dotted line for softball.

Sowder will go down as one of the greatest basketball players at the school.  She finished her career with 577 points, 253 steals, 252 assists and 213 rebounds.  She was also the County MVP and played in three all-star games this season.

Walker was the softball team’s speedster, stealing 22 bases and batting .303 at the lead-off spot in head coach Ray Dixon’s line-up.

“She’s the fastest player I’ve ever coached,” Dixon added.

“I can’t wait to go against Gulf Coast and steal their bases,” Walker said.  “’Cause there like, ‘man, maybe we should’ve signed that girl’!”

Both ladies are excited to be heading to Madison together.

“I’m actually happy that I have a friend, cause it’s a small town,” Walker said.  “There’s a few cows.  I think for fun they race pigs.”

“It relieves some of the stress,” Sowder said.  “At least I have that feeling that I know somebody.”
