Resigned, Re-applied, Re-hired
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Arnold High School’s first-ever head football coach is now the school’s second-ever head football coach. Arnold Principle Dr. John Haley calls it, “a new coach with his old job.”
James Hale was re-hired Tuesday as the Marlins’ head football coach, a position he resigned from on June 1.
That policy changed in 2003, and now Hale gets what he deserves for his 22 years of coaching.
“I didn’t even know about [the policy],” Hale said. “When Mosley hired Perry Brown, I was like, ‘Whoa man!’ I’ve coached as long as he has and I’m not nearly making that money. So, I thank Perry Brown, and I found out what you can do.”
“[The board] cut James short thousands of dollars,” Haley said. “These other guys are paid a lot more, but James worked in our county longer.”
Hale said he’ll be making over $5,000 more with his ‘new old job’, and he’s anxious to get things going for the upcoming season. But he did enjoy his 10-day retirement.
“Honestly, I did the same thing,” Hale said. “Going to school, I did spend two days at home, I got bored.”
Dr. Haley said that Hale is the guy he wanted all along. Someone that has a winning attitude. Hale has proven that with a career record of 35-24 as a Marlin.
Haley also loves Hales compatibility with the community.
“Coaches today have to have a balance,” Haley said. “They need to work with the kids on and off the field, the parents, and supporters of the football program. That’s somehting I see in James Hale.”
Coach Hale has been busy preparing for the first official day of practice on July 31.
