Soccer Tots Program

LYYN HAVEN - The Renegade Sports Center has a Soccer Tots program with kids as young a 18-months old.

Dribbling a soccer ball is hard enough.  Just imagine a three or four year old trying to master the skill.

Colin McKinley just celebrated his third birthday last week.  This bundle of energy is one of eight bundles of energy in the eight-week three and four year old Soccer Tots program.

“It’s a physical development program that’s teaching them team building skills,” soccer coordinator Shadel Dodgen said.  “It’s going to teach regular physical development with the soccer ball: kicking, right foot, left foot, making a goal.”

The kids play games around the soccer ball.  Using a balloon for instance to help with their eye-head coordination.

“I like that can do some great stuff,” four-year-old Steven-Thomas Dvorak said.

“She’s seems to be working better with the kids,” Amy Bishop, a parent of one the kids, said.  “The more she is with the kids, or with other kids, the better she works with them. So, if she just gets that out of it, it’s good.”

This program is not designed to make the kids pro-athletes, but for the physical development part of soccer.

“We do have some handful kids,” Dodgen said.  “Those are the fun ones, they keep it very interesting.”

The next soccer tots program starts on August 6th.
