Sostheim Twins Double Trouble For Foes

PANAMA CITY - The Bay High School soccer team is in first place in District 2-Class 4A with a 12-1-3 record.  A big reason for the success is the tag team of the twin Sostheim brothers.

At first glance, it’s hard to tell brothers Josh and Jake Sostheim apart.

“The beards, the hair, we always looked alike and we’re looking closer and closer alike,” Jake said.

“It’s hard to practice,” Josh said.  “You think they’re talking to you, but they’re not.  It’s confusing.”

Jake and Josh have been playing soccer ever since they were old enough to walk.  With their hefty size, the brothers picked up a little pigskin along the way.  Josh a kicker and Jake a fullback.

“The football background helps out quite a bit in their strength,” Bay coach Ron Houpt said.  “Plus the agility and speed play a big factor.”

“It makes me aggressive and hit people harder in soccer which,” Jake said.  “I don’t know if that is a good thing, cause I get a lot of fouls.”

By looks alone, you’d be seeing double.  But if you make a run at one of the twins or step in front of one of their rocket shots, chances are you’d be seeing double too.

“They are so big and strong that even an adult wouldn’t want to go up for a 50-50 ball,” Houpt said.  “If [the twins] hit’em, they’re going sailing.”

Growing up, like most identical twins, Mom always had a knack for dressing her sons appropriately.

“She liked for us to look alike,” Josh said.  “Then we got fed up and dressed ourselves.”

Besides the beards, the hair and the close, the twins also finish each other’s sentences.

“We know what the other is thinking most of the time,” Jake said.  “We’re really close.”

The Tornadoes are in action Friday night at East Gadsden.
