Superboat OffShore Grand Prix
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - There was plenty of thunder on the beach Sunday afternoon with the Superboat Offshore Grand Prix making it’s second appearance in as many years to Bay County.
Two races were scheduled, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The first race went on without flaw. But the second race did not happen due to the lack of boats entered.
Twenty-two boats raced in five different classes up and down the Gulf Coast shoreline from Spinnaker to the County Pier.
The boats sped across the water, rounding 12 laps for a total of 84 miles which took the boats about an hour to complete.
In the Super Vee class, the Yachts Fountain boat had the most impressive run, finishing first overall.
“We got our big lead back by a good start,” Yachts driver Serge Allegre said. “We did a lot of work on the boat [to give] it better acceleration. That’s what was missing in our last race.”
The next race will be Sept. 10 at the 15th Annual New York Superboat Grand Prix.
