The Bombers
PANAMA CITY BEACH- “We started playing tournaments around February. We’ve played in 11 tournaments in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. We won eight out of 11 tournaments we’ve entered and our total record is 47-3,” said Bay County Bombers assistant coach Jeremy Millirons.
“47-3. They do a good job. Definitely easy to coach, definitely easy to coach, I’ll say that. They are a joy to be around,” said head coach Ryan Yeager.
I’m sure it is a joy to be around a team like the Bay County Bombers.
This nine and under baseball team is just dominant. The Bombers have won eight out of 11 tournaments they have played in this season and they are currently ranked 10th in the nation, in their age group.
“This is a great group of boys. We’ve got nine players on the team right now. They’ve just come together so well since February. Everybody has gelled real well,” said Yeager.
“We’ve been working with them for like I said two to three years. They are just a good group of kids. They hustle on and off the field. They are just very easy to coach,” said Millirons.
All the Bombers hard work this year has given them the chance of a life time. Three weeks ago, the team heard about the Disney Elite 24 World Series.
A tournament for the top 24 nine and under teams in the country held August 3rd through the 10th.
So, they figured they would give it a shot at being selected.
“We put in our bid for it. I guess they did their homework and looked on our website and found out that we are pretty legit with our record and everything. So they gave us an at-large bid which helped us out a lot,” Yeager stated.
Getting the bid might have been the easy part, now the squad has to raise the money for the trip which could reach around $10-thousand dollars.
“We have made it our primary goal to raise enough money to make that trip possible for our boys. We’re going to do everything possible to raise enough money to make this trip possible for our boys, and hopefully bring a lot of prestige and glory to Bay County,” said parent Richard Lucas.
“With a group this good we wanted a chance to be able to take them to Orlando. A big tournament like that, a national tournament to where they can see the best of the best and see how they compete against each other,” said Yeager.
If the team is able to raise enough funds to make it to Orlando, the kids won’t disappoint Bay County, because they are there for one reason.
“I’m there to win,” Bomber player Rashard Lucas.
“I’m looking to win, because, I just do,” said Bomber player R.J. Yeager.
If you are interested in helping the bombers reach their goal of a trip to Orlando, you can contact Ryan Yeager at 814-3466 and make a contribution to the team.
The Bombers have one fundraiser set already, on July 25th, at Black Angus. The event will feature a silent auction; meal and a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament.
Tickets for the event are $50.
