The MADNESS Begins!
Tallahassee, Fla.—It must be the month of March when college basketball announcer Dick Vitale is kissing babies.
We definitely know it’s the month of March when we see upsets on the hardwood.
“That’s a dream come true right there,” senior Andrew Wilson said. “Just the opportunity to be able to play in a game like that, a game that was so important to us, for our post-season hopes.”
Most of the Duke players were not near the court when the Seminoles beat the top-ranked Blue Devils 79-74 Wednesday night.
Duke Coach Mike Krzyzweski took his team to the locker room after Florida State fans prematurely stormed the court with time still on the clock.
“We’ve got great fans, I didn’t know they would rush the court with 1.7 seconds left,” forward Al Thornton said. “That was kinda crazy! But I love our fans.”
Going into the locker room at the half, the Seminoles held a three-point lead. Thanks to it’s scrappy defense.
“They beat us to loose balls,” Duke’s J.J. Redick said. “Throughout the course of the game their effort was at a higher level than ours. They just played a great game.”
Redick’s the player everyone loves to hate.
And the fans’ artwork displayed their feelings for the NCAA’s all-time three-point leader and quite possibly the number one pick in the NBA draft.
“He’s the best player in the country,” Wilson said. “He’s the best player I’ve had to defend. He’s one of those guys you know where he’s going to be, but you cant stop him, he’s that good.”
The last time Florida State upset a number one ranked team was against Krzyzweski’s Blue Devils in 2002.
