Top 100!

PANAMA CITY- You’ll find the top 100 baseball prospects of North Florida in town this weekend.

The second annual Top 100 College Prospect Series kicked off Friday night at Bill Frazier Field with a cookout and recruiting seminar.

This weekend will feature player workouts and actual games.

The event gathers the top 100 players from the 2009 class from Pensacola, all the way to Jacksonville.

The players are divided into four regional groups, 25 per team, and they go through extensive workouts in front of scouts and recruiters.

After the workouts, each region plays three games.

The event focuses on allowing upcoming high school seniors to show their baseball abilities in front on the right audience.

“You know, you get 100 of the best ‘09s in our immediate area to come into one venue and you get to see what they can do, from all varied angles and different positions,” said director Steve Merchant.

“It’s a great opportunity. I think these kids later on, after this year will realize how much this event will help them going to the next level,” said Illinois High School Hall of Fame Coach Jim Hall.

“You have to be nominated by somebody, and obviously, I got nominated by one of the coaches or other players, and it just means a lot that somebody thinks enough of me to nominate me to be good enough to be in the Top 100 in North Florida. It means a real lot to our school, and our family and parents and all that,” said Chipley High School senior Joseph Taylor.
