High School Football Spring Camp
SPRINGFIELD- The Rutherford Rams are entering their second week of spring practice, and are hoping they can improve after back-to-back 1-9 seasons.
The Rams will be running the spread offense behind second year starting quarterback Cordarryl Rogers.
They must replace running back Reggie Turner, as well as two starting offensive lineman, and find replacements in the secondary.
The Rams are preparing for a May 23rd Spring Jamboree against Bay High, so I asked Head Coach Greg Rivers if he notices players performing better in practice or a game type situation.
“Well I’d like to see them perform better in each one of them. You know, practice makes perfect. If we have a bad practice, most of the time we’re going to have a bad game. Some teams have practiced poorly and had a good game. So, sometimes it balances itself out,” said Rivers.
PANAMA CITY- The Bay High School Tornadoes are in their second week of spring practice as well.
They’ll be looking to rebound after last season’s 3-6 finish.
One of the focuses during this spring will be in the backfield where the Tornadoes will have to replace quarterback Ethan Register and star running backs Jordon Byas and Khyri Thornton.
The Tornadoes have a Red and White scrimmage set for Saturday, May 17th, and then they’ll take on the Rutherford Rams Friday, May 23rd in their Spring Jamboree.
The Tornadoes are hoping to have a great spring training, and I asked Head Coach Mike Healey what he considers a good spring.
“A good spring is when you don’t get anybody hurt. That’s always the scary part about if you have a good player and he happens to get hurt during the spring, you might miss him during the fall,” said Healy.
“A good spring is when they are picking up the offense and picking up the defense. The kids have a good chemistry when they work well together. When they get after each other real hard, it kind of leaves a coach with a good feeling in his mouth, because those are kind of the essential things we are looking for in the fall. Not to lose those types of things in during the summertime so you can carry it in to the fall.”
