Bad parenting
A mom raises a daughter that gets arrested for domestic battery. Then her son is arrested for bringing drugs into Bay County to sell...and assaults a cop in the process. Hey--nice job, Mom!

Remember about ten years ago when those two wooden barracks at Mowat Middle School burned down? THAT was the daughter that started that fire.
Here’s a hypothetical for you: A college kid majoring in pharmacy gets stopped for speeding just outside, say, Blountstown, and the cop finds a load of drugs in the car...the kid was bringing in these drugs to sell in Panama City during Spring Break. Oh--and when the cop starts to search the car, the kid assaults the officer. Shouldn’t this kid get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? Shouldn’t this kid forfeit any future he might have had in the pharmaceutical field? This is just a hypothetical, mind you…
Hey Newuser...yes, I agree we shouldn’t have pharmacy majors running around selling their wares as undergrads! Usually the cops go easy on the kid to placate the parents, which means the kid doesn’t learn his lesson. Or worse, learns the wrong lesson...that you can depend on Mom to get you outta trouble with the law, and then go on your merry way.
Hey Tuck0--Well, you know the apple doesn’t roll far from the tree from which it falls...and the wormier the apple, the less it rolls, if you get my meaning. For example, have you ever noticed how when a high school-aged girl drops out of school because she is, shall we say, “with child,” that usually the girl’s Mom has the same history...got pregs, dropped out of high school, etc. We live in a world of wormy apples.
I take issue with the comments that ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’, or ‘the wormier the apple..’. We raised 4 children the best and most christian way possible. Both our daughters never had a baby out of wedlock, as their mother did. I had hoped I was honest enough with my girls that they understood why they should not follow in their mother’s footsteps. (and I never dropped out of high school either) One of our boys did very well. Started his career and then married at the age of 25. But one of our kids went the wrong way. He never committed a crime of violence. He fell into drugs and spent time in the Pen. We were totally spent. There were times, when he was a teen, when we couldn’t find him as we searched night after night. We put a security system in the home to prevent his getting out at night. But he figured it out! Not all homes are a reflection of their parents.
Oh, and by the way, the son that went the wrong way, now is married and is a father. He has turned his life totally around! So, there are also some success stories out there.
OK--sorry...I was painting with too wide a brush!
Well, things are different today. I’m over 55 and in my day when a high school girl got “in trouble,” (a euphemism for...you know) she “went away” and had either had the kid outta town or had an illegal abortion. Times have changed. Today a pregnant teen can attend school as normal. So what do you think? Is that good? Or was it better handled in the olden days?
Don’t get me started on abortion. Abortion is baby killing. How can a mom live with herself that does that? Like I say--don’t get me started.
I don’t remember barracks at Mowat being burned down. Tell me more about that.
Well, this happened about ten years ago...it made the news at the time but the perp’s name was withheld because she was a juvie.
Anyway: She was a student at Mowat, cut class, and set fires that burned down the two wooden barracks on campus. Everything inside was burned to a fare-thee-well; fortunately there were no students in them at the time! The kid was expelled, natch. If I recall correctly, she then enrolled in several other schools but got expelled each time (even bombing out of New Horizons, which is hard to do). You could say this kid experienced more expulsions than Dr. Heimlich. Eventually--thankfully, in her case-- she dropped out of high school. But let’s not put 100% of the blame on the kid. It all comes down to bad parenting...which brings this thread to a neat bit of closure, don’t you think?
Talk about bad parenting - how about MLA’s parents that dropped him in Grandma’s lap until it was worth $2 mil to claim him again.
YOU GOT THE RIGHT IDEA PROJUSTICE !!! THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED… OUT OF THE WOODWORK CAME MAMA AND DADA… ONLY THING I COULDNT FIGURE OUT IS...BEING GRANDMA DID RAISE HIM THE BEST OF HER ABILITY… WELL… HOW MUCH WAS HER SHARE?? BET SHE DIDNT GET A DIME
Grandma is about the only one I feel sorry for in that family.
How about the GGW families that wanna sue because their girls were out doing things they shouldn’t have been and expect to be rewarded for it?
Those are excellent points, Apalachee, ProJustice, and JDay1999!
I concur!
Well, then. All hail the concurring hero. Now tell me: What would you say about a girl with bad posture who agrees with you?
A girl with bad posture who agrees with me? Hmmmmm. She stoops to concur?
Ding! Ding! Ding! You are correct. Good going, Newuser. You is smart!
Yes I is, thanks. Now YOU tell ME: What would you call a guy named Bill who agrees with you?
A guy named Bill who agrees with me? Hmmmm (as you would say)...William the Concur-er?
Ding yo’ own bad self! Nice going! OK, then...what would you call a guy named Bill who performs magic tricks?
William the Conjuror?
