Broken System by Thomas Blevins

I read this in the Sunday .42 cent forum and believed that is was well worth sharing.
Mr Belvins writes:

In response to “Ethics commission rules in Allen’s favor” (news, June 7):  Could our society be in more trouble than when the watchdogs we pick are more corrupt than those thy are supposed to watch?  Is there anyone who does not understand that something is terrible wrong when a petitioner charges a government $1,500 a month for something that is worth $6,000?

The good old boy network extends all over the Panhandle area.  Several stories have run on Channel 13 about the corruption with Volunteer Fire Departments in the area asking citizens for money and then using money for reasons other than what they collected it for. I wonder why some organization are monitored so closely, yet these fire departments can do what they want, when they want and no one thinks its fraud

I am new here but am getting aquainted with the corruption very quickly.  Wow!! What kind of place did I move to.  I came here to retire to warm weather and beautiful beaches.  In my short time here I am just amazed as to what goes on here.  When are these good ole boys going to die off so we can get some fresh blood in and hope for things to improve.  How have so many things allowed to continue.  Here’s another example, the building dept.  They ignore homeowner complaints about the local contractors and will tell anyone calling for a reference that they are a good builder and no complaints have been filed.  Why do they protect them????

I am really thinking that the sun, sand and surf come with too much baggage for my liking.

The area has a VERY high level of corruption, you only saw a tiny part of it!

Visit the supervisor of election website and search the campaign contributors.  Want to find the crooks?  FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL!!!

I am forced to live in fear since I did business with a local contractor/convicted felon who has a gand of thugs as friends and a daddy who I am continually told is “well connected” in county government.

I am almost afraid to find out who he has in his pocket. He filed a frivolous law suit against me as I bruised his ego, will I get a fair trial?  He’s looking for big bucks and has other local criminals to tesify in his behalf. It has gotten back to me that his father has been purchasing testimony.
