CONTRACTOR SCAMS NEWSLETTER…....MAY 2009

Topic of the month: ABUSE OF FLORIDA’S JUDICIAL SYSTEM BY DIRTY CONTRACTORS!

These monthly newsletters are researched and published by the consumer advocacy group CLEAN UP DIRTY CONTRACTORS.  Constantly working to “Level the playing field for consumers”!

The State of Florida fails miserably when it comes to protecting consumers from Dirty Contractors.  We interviewed numerous consumer and law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida to find out how complaints of Contractor fraud and judicial abuse were handled.

Simple, the complaints aren’t handled at all.  The typical consumer is bounced around to several agencies being denied help over and over again.  Meanwhile draining their savings in legal fees defending against what are often fraudulent and frivolous claims made by Dirty Contractors in an effort to force consumers into making large cash settlement offers to contractors who threaten further legal action.

The State of Florida’s lack of regulation puts consumers at great risk for Fraud and other abuses.  Clean Up Dirty Contractors will continue to expose this shameful practice of Florida’s Dirty Contractors and the public officials who ignore complains and look the other way.  Our goal is to continue to educate consumers and fight for the protection of homeowners with the Florida Attorney General and Governor’s office.

Contractor Scams reported in the State of Florida:

1.  Dirty Contractors will file fraudulent liens to use as leverage to bully settlements from homeowners.
2.  Dirty Contractors will resort to harassment, bullying, intimidation, and even violence to bully unlawful large settlements offers.
3.  Dirty Contractors will hire unscrupulous attorneys to advance their cause and practice “deception” not law to bully homeowners into settlement offers to avoid further threatened legal action.
4.  Dirty Contractors will also hire other dirty contractors to testify in a court of law and back up the contractors’ false claims.
5.  Dirty Contractors often rely on their “connections” in the community to sway the case their way. Public officials often look the other way.
6.  Dirty Contractors will use threats of unlawful legal action to black mail homeowners and extort large cash settlements.
7.  Dirty Contractors will complete only the amount of the project that is required for local building codes and abandon the rest.
8.  Dirty Contractors will use the courts to get any balance retained for repairs, although refusing to complete any of the work.
9.  Dirty Contractors will aggressively harass and threaten any customer who dares to file a consumer complaint against them.
10.  Dirty Contractors who are desperate for money will even resort to extreme violence on female homeowners as they are too cowardly to go after the men.

A contractor who we recently interviewed was asked:
Interviewer: “Don’t the judges decide a case according to Florida laws?”
Contractor:  “Well, that depends whether or not the judge plays golf with the contractor or if he wants an addition on his home.”

The contractor very openly discussed the strong influence that some contractors have over county building departments and county government officials and even judges.

“This is referred to as the Good Old Boy System, and it has always been about who you know and who you do favors for”

THIS IS A SHAMEFUL PRACTICE THAT CLEAN UP DIRTY CONTRACTORS WILL CONTINUE TO EXPOSE!!!

Remember to always Google your contractor to search for consumer complaints filed against them and check both criminal and civil history (personal name and company name) with your local courthouse before signing. State of Florida will issue contractors’ licenses to convicted felons with histories of Grand Theft then ignore consumer complaints of Theft and Fraud!

On large jobs, it is also advisable to have a construction litigation attorney review your contract before signing.

Sincerely,
CLEAN UP DIRTY CONTRACTORS
