Letter to Commissioners Mike Thomas and Mike Nelson

Dear Mr. Thomas and Nelson:

There are a few questions that I would appreciate an answer to before the election.

1.  What is the huge building under construction beside the new library?  Is it going to house the county offices?

2.  Why are there so many Bay County classrooms still housed in mobile units while a larger than life building is being constructed for the county’s top employees?

3.  Why doesn’t the building dept. enforce the provisions on the contractors’ licenses?  Why don’t they disclose or investigate reported contractor abuses?  Why does Dan Shaw ignore complaints about a dysfunctional building dept.?

4.  Why are background checks not required before issuing a business license.  Do we really want “pedophiles opening day care centers”, “Convicted Felons running scams” and “Wife beaters operating shelters”. (two of these are only examples)

Who is going to protect the residents of Bay County if the county itself turns its back to people who need their help. Why do county employees look the other way while knowing about abuses occurring?

5.  Why does the County Manager Ed Smith and asst. Felica Simms respond so defensively when anyone inquires about possible county employee “wrong doing”?

Finally I would like to pass along a compliment to your Public Relations manager Valerie Lovett.  She is not at all like the rest at the county offices. She is always helpful, friendly, professional and a pleasure to talk to everytime.  The other county office higher ups could learn alot from Ms. Lovett
s public relations skills.

The main reason that Bay County is so poor is because the big “plantation owners” own a massive amount of land and pay less then $2.00 per acre in property tax “that would bankrupt ANY area”!

Yes, I have a couple of questions for the Bay County Commissioners!

1.  Why does the building dept. issue licenses to Ex-cons and Convicted Felons.  Don’t you realize that puts people at risk?

2.  When these thugs repeat there offenses now to customers under the license that the county issued to them (RR Registered Residential County Issue)why aren’t complaints of abuse investigated or disclosed to the public?

3.  Does having your “daddy” on a county board entitle everyone to a “free pass”?

4.  Do you really think that this scandal will be kept quiet?  I will continue to keep writing about it until someone steps up!

5.  Do you have any idea how low the standard of education is in the Bay County Schools?  Two years or more behind other systems.  How sad!
