Open Letter - Bay County School Board Budget

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: BAY COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD BUDGET 07 STORM WATER TAXES

In reference to the Bay County School tax increase: I would like to know what caused the increase to be proposed. What can cause a need for more revenue? Pay raises, the building of new schools, hiring additional help? Are the schools overflowing with students, what is the student to teacher ratio, is there a watch dog that the School Board must satisfy before increasing taxes? Since I am one of the citizens that will have to pay the taxes, I would sure like to know all the information necessary to make these decesions.

To find out the answers to some of these questions, one can attend a meeting (one meeting) September 7, in the SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ROOM, 1311 BALBOA AVE, Panama City , Florida. THE TIME (GET THIS) 5:01 PM. I called the Secretary for the School Board and asked how many seats would be available in this room. She wasn’t quite sure but said that the room could be opened up into another room and that would allow at least 100 persons. ONE MEETING, 5:01 PM, 100 PERSONS. I WONDER WHAT PERCENTAGE OF BAY COUNTY THAT WOULD REPRESENT. DO YOU THINK THAT ANYONE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD SAY THAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY AND WE DIDN’T START IT? A GOOD REPLY WOULD BE, YOU HAVEN’T CHANGED IT EITHER.

Myself, I have never had any children in the Bay County Schools. I am a home owner and contunue to pay the taxes. Why should those persons having no children in School, pay school taxes? What does it do for us? Any answer that is given would support the taxation of RENTERS, whose children attend Bay County Schools and every citizen working in Bay County.

I would suggest this as a method of consideration. I’m not totally against paying the School Taxes. Why doesn’t someone use the McDonald’s principle, volume.

Extend the tax to the afore mentioned and lower the payments by sheer volume. THE SAME COULD BE SAID ABOUT THE STORM WATER TAX CAUSED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. ONE MEETING, SEP 13, 2007 AT 5:05PM, CITY HALL, US HWY 90 WEST, DEFUNIAK SPRINGS. I WONDER HOW LARGE THE MEETING ROOM IS THERE? ISN’T THIS RIDICULOUS? IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE TAXATION WITH LITTLE OR NO REPRESENTATION. ANYONE A TEA DRINKER?

Local tax increases, housing insurance, auto insurance, medical insurance, medication costs, hospital costs, doctor costs, gas and oil, food, shelter, and clothing costs.

THE BUCK STOPS AT US, THE CITIZEN. REMEMBER, WE CAN CAST VOTES TO REMOVE PERSONS CONSTANTLY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF US. WE CAN OVERFILL THE MEETINGS AND LET OUR OUTRAGE BE KNOWN TO INCLUDE WRITING OR E-MAILING EVERYONE AND EVERY PAPER POSSIBLE. THE PEOPLE THAT WE ELECT DON’T TAKE US SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. ENOUGH SAID.
